Common Managed Services Provider Myths Debunked

Posted on February 21, 2017 by Editor Posted in Technology Standards .

Managed IT services became popular over the past few years. But even with that, there are still a lot of things about the MSP that some business owners in Singapore don’t understand. To help you know the truth behind these misconceptions, we listed down some of the common myths about managed IT services providers as well as the truth behind all of it.

Myth 1: A managed IT services is costlier than having an in-house IT staff.

While you may think that paying a managed IT services provider on a monthly basis is expensive, more often than not hiring one actually helps in cutting down your IT expenditures. A managed services provider works diligently in identifying and fixing IT issues even before they affect employee productivity, thus making them an investment-worthy choice. You will see them as a more cost-effective option especially when you realize that you no longer have to pay for the benefits affiliated with a hiring a full-time IT staff.

Myth 2: Hiring an outsourced staff means a reduced quality of IT services.

Another myth about MSP that should already be put to rest is that hiring one equates to getting low quality IT services for your business. Unlike what some business owners believe in, hiring a managed services provider gives you a round-the-clock access to good quality IT services and a team of professionals equipped with all the necessary skills and knowledge. Also, acquiring such quality services is now made easier with the help of the modern communication tools. With just a phone call or a finger swipe, you can already have access to these services and personnel.

Myth 3: All managed IT services providers are the same.

Just as not all restaurants are the same, managed service providers also vary from one another. Each MSP is different and finding out which suits your IT needs the most requires understanding these differences. Simply searching for a service provider in your area in Singapore and choosing the one that shows up first can pose some serious danger to your business.

Remember, there’s a huge difference between a service provider who just recently learned how to provide managed IT services and someone who already has years of experience in the industry. So when you request for IT service in Singapore, do take your time to understand what each vendor offers and be sure to schedule an appointment before deciding on which service provider to choose.

Myth 4: Outsourcing IT services will cause your in-house staff to lose their job.

Hiring a managed services provider doesn’t necessarily mean dismissing your in-house IT staff. Keep in mind that the extent to which you allow an outside partner access your network system is completely up to you. While you may choose to have your prospective MSP handle all your IT needs, you can also have them go on a collaborative work with your in-house staff. Remember that you are employing a managed services provider so you get to focus your efforts on matters that promote the development of your company.

Myth 5: An MSP doesn’t have any available help desk support.

Managed IT services providers differ in how they set their support schedules, but most of them offer round-the-clock system management and monitoring. For business-hours support, MSPs also have technicians who are capable of responding to support requests the same way an in-house IT staff does. They will be able to provide you with a dedicated help desk support staff who will work on your system issues as soon as they come up.

Myth 6: Investing on a managed services provider poses some security risks.

Although you need to give up a certain level of control on your network, MSPs have the ability to provide a higher system security level than their in-house counterparts. So be sure to hire someone who has the experience and security credentials in securing client IT systems. Also, remember that your prospective managed services provider should have protocols that will tell you how well your systems are secured.

Myth 7: A third-party IT services provider won’t be able to provide specialized IT solutions.

For a managed services provider, the success of your company is their business. This is the reason why they work hard to stay updated on the innovative solutions and business trends that cater to the needs of both small and large organizations. These vendors also understand that no particular IT solution is capable of fixing all the system issues of every company.

Myth 8: Managed services provider only offers one-size-fits-all IT solutions.

There was a period when MSPs were technology-focused companies and only offered one-size-fits-all IT solutions to all their clients. But these days, everything is different. Managed services providers are already understanding how each companies work, and are providing IT services that are optimally designed to support your business. They are now also explaining technical matters in a way that their clients understand. With that, it’s safe to say that client-centred technology experts already replaced the technology-focused service providers that once dominated the IT industry.

Although incorporating a managed IT services provider into your business might seem like a challenging transition, hiring a third-party IT company can actually become an invaluable factor in the success and growth of your business. So make sure that you find a reliable MSP to provide your IT system support now that you have debunked some of the common misconceptions about them.

Travel Don’ts You Should Be Aware Of

Posted on February 17, 2017 by Editor Posted in Travel Plans .

Travelling is not perfect. There will come a time that you will make mistakes but the important thing here is you learned your lesson and make a conscious effort to stop committing it again. Sometimes these mistakes will financially blow you but you should never lose faith in travelling and everything it offers.

Whether you are a seasoned traveller or just new, you have to remember travel don’ts so you won’t end up getting thrashed by locals. Here are some travel don’ts that you should be aware:

  • Do not dress improperly: Coming from Singapore, you just wear whatever pleases you whether it is short shorts or scanty tank tops. However if you are going somewhere particularly in the Middle East or other parts with strict religious views, you have to be careful of what you wear. The next time you bare some cleavage, you have to think twice or you might get penalized. Research first before packing. Then about that jewellery, you do not want to catch the attention of robbers or thieves so leave it at home.

  • Do not eat near landmarks: If you want to save more, eat as far as tourist sports or landmarks because prices tend to get high there. Actually if you are patient enough, walk few more blocks and there you will see equally good foods but are cheaper.

  • Do not over pack: When you travel, you tend to be excited and get overwhelmed that is why you tend to overdo your packing. Guess what? There is a chance that you will only use half of it. You should seriously consider travelling light because it is for your own good at the end of the day. There are principles that you should remember whenever you are packing – leave your luxuries at home, do not bring your whole wardrobe and remember that you can buy anything you forgot.

  • Do not change money at airports: Some just change their money at airports thinking that they have the best rates in town. This is where you are wrong. You can either find a local money changer or if it cannot be helped, just small amount first.

  • Do not be afraid: It is normal to be afraid especially if you are alone but if you just let yourself be that way the whole duration of the trip, you will not have any moments of peace. You will not enjoy and that is how you will forfeit your journey.
