Best Ways to Make Your Food Last Longer

Posted on May 29, 2017 by Editor Posted in Gourmet World .

There’s nothing more frustrating that preparing your salad only to realize that your four-day-old lettuce is already wilting. Expired produce is one of the major sources of food waste, not to mention a serious waste of your hard-earned money as well. Yet, there’s no need to resign yourself to a dry-food-only diet for we listed down some food storage hacks that’ll help keep your produce fresh up to their best-by date.

1. Store Your Veggies on a Vegetable Sack
There’s no need to store all your vegetables in the refrigerator just to keep them fresh. Veggies like garlic, onions, potatoes and shallots shouldn’t be kept in the fridge as it’ll only make them spoil faster. Most root vegetables tend to last longer if you store them in a dry place. Most households in Singapore don’t have root cellars for storing food, so the best alternative to this is using vegetable sacks for storage. It’ll help keep them from cold and light, and there’ll also be no sprouting.

2. Use Air-Tight Containers

As much as possible, avoid leaving half-empty cereal boxes and other dry foods out in the open. Doing so could make them stale and tasteless. To keep that from happening, ensure that you place them in air-tight containers after opening their original packaging. If you want, you can also reuse pasta sauce bottles as a container for storing dry foods.

3. Keep Your Cheese in a Cheese Keeper

Keeping any type of cheese fresh isn’t easy. If it develops moulds, it could become mushy, unappetizing and unhealthy. One way of keeping a cheese fresh is by storing in a cheese keeper. It’ll help in regulating the levels of humidity surrounding the cheese, keeping the cheese from drying out and preventing the moulds from forming.

4. Invest in a Vacuum Sealer

Vacuum sealers are an incredibly useful tool for maintaining the freshness of any food. By simply touching a single button, the machine will instantly seal the food in an air-tight vacuum bag. It can be used to store leftovers and sauces, and keep them fresh for several weeks or a month.

5. Make Use of Produce Savers

Some fruits and vegetables produce ethylene gas as they become ripe, causing them to spoil faster. To ensure that your fresh produce lasts longer, simply use the food savers. This tool absorbs the extra ethylene gas and humidity found in any fresh produce, resulting to an increase shelf life of the foods.

Practising proper food storage is one way of prolonging the shelf life of your produce and avoiding food and most wastage. So be sure to put these storage tips to work to keep your food fresh up to their expiration date.

How to Look and Feel Sexy While You Are Pregnant

Posted on May 24, 2017 by Editor Posted in Fashion Tips .

While pregnancy is a beautiful thing, you might not always think that you look that way. Your changing body will likely make you feel insecure and cautious, but that shouldn’t be the case – you should only feel sexy while you’re pregnant. So if you’re looking for ways on how you could embrace your new body, then make sure that you put the following tips to work.

1. Opt for Softer Fabrics

If you’re thinking of pulling off a softer and more romantic look during your pregnancy, then choosing soft fabrics such as lace, satin and silk for your wardrobe is certainly the way to go. Apart from being soft to touch and looking beautiful, these fabrics also don’t restrict your stomach area. With this, you can ensure that your pregnancy clothes are breathable, comfortable and flirty.

2. Show Off Your Bump

During their pregnancy phase, most mothers prefer hiding their bumps by wearing larger shirts and dresses – which shouldn’t be the case. If anything, wearing larger and loose-fitting clothes will only make you appear larger than you really are. So show off your bump using the clothes you already own. Toss your tight shirts to the side until after you give birth, but keep your stretchy and loose-fitting tops at the front of your closet. By wearing these pieces, you’ll be able to proudly display your bump sans feeling constricted.

3. Never Sacrifice Your Old Style

Sacrificing their style is one of the things that women feel like they need to do when they become pregnant. But while there may be styles that would seem inappropriate to wear for an expecting mother, that shouldn’t keep you from feeling sexy while being pregnant. If you feel comfortable wearing certain pieces on your wardrobe, then feel free to do so. If you’re fond of wearing dresses over knee boots, then go ahead and strut them together with your baby bump.

4. Invest in a Good Pair of Maternity Jeans

Although you’ll mostly be wearing your dresses throughout your pregnancy, there’s actually no need to completely bid goodbye to your pair of jeans. If you have toned legs and a nice bum, then it’s still possible for you to wear a pair of maternity jeans. Just avoid going overboard with how many maternity jeans you’ll purchase, and just stick with the basics: white, light denim, dark denim and black.

5. Pamper Yourself

As you get further into your pregnancy, you’ll likely feel and look tired, and that could diminish the glow that you’ve grown accustomed to throughout your pregnancy period. To bring back that glow, make sure that you get yourself pampered every now and then. Schedule a manicure and pedicure session, sign up for a spa treatment, or do anything that you used to do to pamper yourself.

Being pregnant shouldn’t keep you from feeling good about how you look. Instead, you should embrace the changes associated with pregnancy and be happy with the new kind of life it’ll give you.
